CCLA is fighting back; we are advocating for the importance of a fair and functioning bail system that protects both Charter rights and community safety because we know the importance of a fair bail system. Bail reform is not a popular political issue, but CCLA advocates for what is right, not what is popular. We know we can have a system that protects both Charter rights and community safety. One solution that will help to move us in the right direction is making “bail bed” programs more widely available and accessible, and this is something that CCLA is advocating for. Al-Bukhaari (3180) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: How will you be when you are not able to collect any dinars or dirhams? It was said to him: On what basis do you say that will happen, O Abu Hurayrah? He said: By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Abu Hurayrah, (I learned that) from the words of the most truthful one (i.e., the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)). They said: What did he say? He said: “The covenant granted by Allah and His Messenger (to the dhimmis) will be transgressed, so Allah will make the hearts of ahl adh-dhimmah so bold that they will withhold the jizyah they are supposed to pay.”ying: Iraq would withhold its dirhams and qafiz; Syria would withhold its mudd and dinar and Egypt would withhold its irdab and dinar and you would recoil to that position from where you started and you would recoil to that position from where you started and you would recoil to that position from where you started, the bones and the flesh of Abu Huraira would bear testimony to it.
