1,600 first nation, Native American indigenous people have been displaced ,due to ongoing forest fires and wild fires in Canada. Even more or under evacuation or a threat. And while non-native communities are feeling the effects of ongoing issues with air quality, this is disproportionately affecting the Native American indigenous first nations people of this area. There is not always immediate infrastructure to handle these types of emergencies and many of the Native areas are remote. Some can only be accessed by boat or plane which makes evacuating even more difficult. Traditionally, Native American and indigenous people have also used these forests for foraging hunting, but also these are considered sacred lands. Native people used to do controlled burns, which would help prevent large wildfires, but colonial governments have not allowed this. And now wildfires and fires fires are affecting everyone ;
