Hadith on Anbiya: All of the prophets were good shepherds
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah did not send any prophet but that he cared for sheep.” The companions asked, “And you as well?” The Prophet said, “Yes. I was a shepherd with a modest wage on behalf of the people of Mecca.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2262 Grade: Sahih(authentic) according to Al-Bukhari

Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Every one of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. The leader of people is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects. A man is the guardian of his family and he is responsible for them. A woman is the guardian of her husband’s home and his children and she is responsible for them. The servant of a man is a guardian of the property of his master and he is responsible for it. Surely, every one of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.” [Sahih Bukhari 6719, Sahih Muslim 1829]

Surah An Nisaa/ Women:170. O people! The Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe—that is best for you. But if you disbelieve, to God belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. God is Omniscient and Wise.
171. O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, is the Messenger of God, and His Word that He conveyed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Refrain—it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him—that He should have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is a sufficient Protector.
172. The Messiah does not disdain to be a servant of God, nor do the favored angels. Whoever disdains His worship, and is too arrogant—He will round them up to Himself altogether.
Jesus and The Table Spread -Surah Maidah
114. Jesus son of Mary said, “O God, our Lord, send down for us a table from heaven, to be a festival for us, for the first of us, and the last of us, and a sign from You; and provide for us; You are the Best of providers.”
115. God said, “I will send it down to you. But whoever among you disbelieves thereafter, I will punish him with a punishment the like of which I never punish any other being.”
Denying worshipping other than Allah/God:
116. And God will say, “O Jesus son of Mary, did you say to the people, `Take me and my mother as gods rather than God?’“ He will say, “Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to. Had I said it, You would have known it. You know what is in my soul, and I do not know what is in Your soul. You are the Knower of the hidden.
117. I only told them what You commanded me: that you shall worship God, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them while I was among them; but when You took me to Yourself, You became the Watcher over them—You are Witness over everything.
118. If You punish them, they are Your servants; but if You forgive them, You are the Mighty and Wise.”
119. God will say, “This is a Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness.” They will have Gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will remain forever. God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the great attainment.
120. To God belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and what lies in them, and He has power over everything.
In about 1830 James Evans, a Wesleyan missionary, devised a way to write the Ojibwe language of Rice Lake with the Latin alphabet. His goal was to produce a dictionary of Ojibwe to help him to learn the language better, and to help him teach English to the Ojibwe people.
In about 1840, while working at Norway House in Hudson’s Bay, Evans invented a syllabic script for the Ojibwe language, based partly on Pitman shorthand, which had been published in 1837. It is thought that his idea to create a syllabic script was based on the Cherokee script.
Evans’ syllabary for Ojibwe consisted of just nine symbols, each of which could be written in four different orientations to indicate different vowels. This was sufficient to write Ojibwe. Evans translated parts of the Bible and other religious works into Ojibwe, and later Cree, and printed them using type carved from wood, or made from melted-down linings of tea chests.
Evans later adapted it to write Cree. The script proved popular with Ojibwe and Cree speakers, and within about 10 years, many of them had learnt to read and write it, learning mainly from family or friends. As paper was scarce at the time, they wrote on birch bark with soot from burnt sticks, or carved messages in wood, and nicknamed James Evans ‘The man who made birch bark talk’.
The Ojibwe script continued to be widely used until the 1950s and 1960s, when the integration policies of Department of Indian and Northern Affairs led to a decline in use to the script among Ojibwe children taught to write in the Roman alphabet.
Ojibwe is a language of verbs. Most of the information in a sentence is carried by verbs, and verbs also tend to carry out functions that are covered by other parts of speech in other languages. For example, Nimbakade – I am hungry. This is a verb. Ojibwe doesn’t really have adjectives. To express that someone or something is in a given state or has a certain property, you almost always use a verb.
Traditional analysis of the grammar of Ojibwe (and related languages) suggests that there are four major categories of verbs in the language. Each category has its own set of prefixes and suffixes. It adds up to a lot to memorize, but don’t worry, we will take you through it step by step, one lesson at a time.
To understand the four categories, it helps to know that Ojibwe nouns come in two kinds, or “genders.” These genders are not male and female as you might be familiar with in certain European languages, but rather animate and inanimate. Animate generally refers to living things and people, while inanimate refers to non-living objects. However, there are many exceptions. For example, in many dialects, the word for rock is animate. Some speakers of the language attribute spiritual significance to this, and some don’t. In this course, we won’t get too much into the philosophy, but we will teach this simply as a property of the language. It is similar to how in Spanish “table” is feminine but “book” is masculine. As you learn Ojibwe nouns, you will have to memorize whether they are animate or inanimate. As you’ll see, this distinction also affects what verbs you can use with different nouns. We’ll talk much more about this in time.
PRONOUNS:
These pronouns are fairly equivalent to their English translations, but they actually aren’t used that much in Ojibwe in ordinary conversation.This is because verbs take prefixes to indicate 1st 2nd and 3rd person, so you don’t need to add a pronoun on top of that. Here are the verb forms with prefixes:

VERBS EXAMPLES:
Here are two more examples. The dictionary forms for these verbs are maajaa and nibaa. Note that these are also the third-person singular forms (this only applies to VAI verbs – the other verb classes have their own dictionary forms, again the most minimal forms with no prefixes or suffixes).

PREVERBS:
Finally, the preverbs in this lesson. A preverb is a kind of prefix that comes before the main verb, modifying its meaning. Here we use wii-, which is a kind of future tense marker. OPD labels it as pv tns, a preverb of tense. You use this when indicating that someone will probably do something, that they want to do something or are volunteering to do it, like when you say “I’ll get it” when the house phone rings. It is less definite than the other future tense marker ga, which indicates more certainty that something will happen – as in giga-waabamin. The hyphen at the end of wii- reminds you that it comes before the verb, and it is common to use that hyphen in writing but not always. The preverb comes before the main verb, but after the prefix indicating person. So we have:
Grammatical rule: For VAI verbs ending in -o or -i, that final short vowel is deleted for the first-person niin and second-person singular giin forms, but it remains for third person wiin. We will illustrate this for two VAI verbs whose citation forms are the third person singular: wiisini and giigido. The first-person prefix for verbs starting in g is nin-. So we have:
PARTICLES:
Particles are little words that fulfill specific grammatical functions. Again, the OPD distinguishes many different kinds, and we will tell you the part of speech as listed in the OPD, but we will not delve deeply into the meaning of those categories. For now, we will discuss na and enya’, both of which are classified as pc disc, or discourse particles.
Na is an important word that marks yes/no questions. To turn a statement into a question, you simply add na as the second word of the sentence. It may also be ina, if following a hard pronounced consonant. So we have:
4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Now in Quran we do not believe God punishes kids for parents sins or vice-versa; but some of the Bible Verses were changed from the original – Bible comes from the Word Biblos in Greek – and it literally means Book – it is Collection of Books/ Writings- not the literal Word of God – because they do not have a complete original Revelation unlike Quran Kareem);
The Greatest Commandment – Matthew 22:34-40
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c]38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Note: Jesus taught to worship God Alone (it was only later around 325 CE – Coucil of Nicea – a Few Hundred years after Jesus where they made the “trinity” the concept of the “son” or God a State religion and changed many of the texts available in Hewbrew and Aramaic); Jesus and the Prophets were upon Monotheism not the “trinity”;
The Lord’s Prayer (Traditional Version)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name;
thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Here the word Father/ Abba means Creator of All; so Jesus was teaching to worship the Father/ God Alone – and make his name Hollowed – Glorified – and the rest if Obvious.
Key aspects of the opening line
“Our Father”: Highlights a relationship with God as a loving, personal parent, and emphasizes a community of faith (“Our”) rather than just “My” relationship.
“who art in heaven”: Acknowledges God’s transcendence and holiness, separating Him from earthly limitations, while still being present.
“hallowed be thy Name”: Calls for reverence and respect for God’s sacred name.
Significance
It serves as a perfect model for prayer, teaching believers what to pray for and how to approach God, focusing on His glory first, then needs
Surah Adh-Dhariat – surah 51:56-57 I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me. I seek no provision from them, nor do I need them to feed Me.
Monotheism in Islam, known as Tawhid, is the core principle asserting God (Allah) is indivisibly One, without partners or equals, demanding worship of Him alone and rejecting polytheism (shirk) as the gravest sin. It’s a strict, pure monotheism emphasizing God’s incomparability, uniqueness, and sovereignty, described through His beautiful names, with no intermediaries, forming the foundation of the Islamic faith and worldview.
Key Aspects of Tawhid/ Monotheism:
Absolute Oneness (Wahdaniyyah): Allah is one and unique; He has no partners, children, spouses, or divisions within His essence.
Rejection of Shirk: Attributing divinity or partners to God (polytheism, idolatry) is the unforgivable sin in Islam.
No Intermediaries:Muslims worship Allah directly, without clergy or intermediaries, fostering a personal relationship with God.
Description by Attributes: God is known through His attributes (like Ar-Rahmān – The Entirely Merciful, Ar-Rahīm – The Especially Merciful) and His “99 Names,” not through physical forms or icons.
Creator & Sustainer:Allah is the sole creator and sustainer of the universe, which operates under His unified command.
Surah Nisa’/ Women ayah 48: Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him ˹in worship˺,1 but forgives anything else of whoever He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has indeed committed a grave sin.
48. God does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives anything less than that to whomever He wills. Whoever associates anything with God has devised a monstrous sin.
49. Have you not considered those who claim purity for themselves? Rather, God purifies whom He wills, and they will not be wronged a whit. 50. See how they devise lies against God. That alone is an outright sin.
51. Have you not considered those who were given a share of the Book? They believe in superstition and evil powers, and say of those who disbelieve, “These are better guided on the way than the believers.” 52. Those are they whom God has cursed. Whomever God curses, you will find no savior for him.
53. Or do they own a share of the kingdom? Then they would not give people a speck. 54. Or do they envy the people for what God has given them of His grace? We have given the family of Abraham the Book and wisdom, and We have given them a great kingdom.
Jesus in Quran Kareem – monotheism Verses/ Ayaat:
Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:72): “The Messiah, son of Mary, said, ‘O Children of Israel, worship Allah—my Lord and your Lord.’Whoever associates others with Allah in worship will surely be forbidden Paradise by Allah. Their home will be the Fire, and the wrongdoers will have no helpers”.
Surah Maryam (19:36): “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the Straight Path”.
Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:117): Jesus denies ever telling people to worship him or his mother as gods, stating, “I never told them anything except what You ordered me to say: ‘Worship Allah—my Lord and your Lord!’
SURAH MAIDAH / The Table Spread:
Verses emphasize belief in God Alone and Not taking Jesus as a Partner to God (Idolatry);
16. God guides with it whoever follows His approval to the ways of peace, and He brings them out of darkness into light, by His permission, and He guides them in a straight path.
17. They disbelieve those who say, “God is the Christ, the son of Mary.” Say, “Who can prevent God, if He willed, from annihilating the Christ son of Mary, and his mother, and everyone on earth?” To God belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. He creates whatever He wills, and God has power over everything.
18. The Jews and the Christians say, “We are the children of God, and His beloved.” Say, “Why then does He punish you for your sins?” In fact, you are humans from among those He created. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what lies between them, and to Him is the return.
19. O People of the Book! Our Messenger has come to you, making things clear to you—after a cessation of messengers—so that you cannot say, “No preacher has come to us, and no warner.” In fact, a preacher has come to you, and a warner; and God is Capable of everything.
Yahya in the Arabic language means he shall Live( as he was a Witness and Martyr for Allah and will live forever in Jannah/ Paradise; his father – prophet Zakkariyyah/ Zechariah prayed for a son to guide the people to Allah/ God AllMighty;
Surah 19/ Chapter MARYAM(Mary):
1. Kaf, Ha, Ya, Ayn, Saad. 2. A mention of the mercy of your Lord towards His servant Zechariah (Zakkariyyah) 3. When he called on his Lord, a call in seclusion. 4. He said, “My Lord, my bones have become feeble, and my hair is aflame with gray, and never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you.5. “And I fear for my dependents after me, and my wife is barren. So grant me, from Yourself, an heir. 6. To inherit me, and inherit from the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, pleasing.”
7. “O Zechariah, We give you good news of a son, whose name is Yahya/John, a name We have never given before.”
8. He said, “My Lord, how can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have become decrepit with old age?” 9. He said, “It will be so, your Lord says, ‘it is easy for me, and I created you before, when you were nothing.’”
10. He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights straight.” 11. And he came out to his people, from the sanctuary, and signaled to them to praise morning and evening.
12. “O John, hold on to the Scripture firmly,” and We gave him wisdom in his youth. 13. And tenderness from Us, and innocence. He was devout. 14. And kind to his parents; and he was not a disobedient tyrant.
15. And peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the Day he is raised alive.
Prophet Eesa/Jesus:
16. And mention in the Scripture Mary, when she withdrew from her people to an eastern location. 17. She screened herself away from them, and We sent to her Our spirit (means Angel Gabriel), and He appeared to her as an immaculate human. 18. She said, “I take refuge from you in the Most Merciful, should you be righteous.” 19. He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord, to give you the gift of a pure son.” 20. She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I was never unchaste?” 21. He said, “Thus said your Lord, `It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.’“
22. So she carried him, and secluded herself with him in a remote place. 23. The labor-pains came upon her, by the trunk of a palm-tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this, and been completely forgotten.” 24. Whereupon he called her from beneath her: “Do not worry; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you. 25. And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you, and it will drop ripe dates by you.”
26. “So eat, and drink, and be consoled. And if you see any human, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Gracious, so I will not speak to any human today.’“
27. Then she came to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have done something terrible. 28. O sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, and your mother was not a whore.” 29. So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to an infant in the crib?”
30. He said, “I am the servant of God. He has given me the Scripture, and made me a prophet. 31. And has made me blessed wherever I may be; and has enjoined on me prayer and charity, so long as I live. 32. And kind to my mother, and He did not make me a disobedient rebel. 33. So Peace is upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the Day I get resurrected alive.” 34. That is Jesus son of Mary—the Word of truth about which they doubt.
35. It is not for God to have a child—glory be to Him. To have anything done, He says to it, “Be,” and it becomes. 36. “God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”
37. But the various factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieve from the scene of a tremendous Day. 38. Listen to them and watch for them the Day they come to Us. But the wrongdoers today are completely lost.
39. And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded. Yet they are heedless, and they do not believe. 40. It is We (God AllMighty – here “we” is the royal we – meaning I- God Alone) who will inherit the earth and everyone on it, and to Us they will be returned.
CAEH has been challenged by a generous donor to raise $100,000 by December 31st. Every dollar we raise will be matched. Can you help us hit the goal? Donate here.
STORY OF ELIZABETH HAZEL:
Every time I go downtown, I’m reminded why this work matters so much.
I’m a survivor of the poisoned drug supply crisis, and I’ve lived without knowing where I was going to fall asleep at night. Unlike so many who are out in the rain, snow, and freezing temperatures tonight, I was lucky enough to have a friend let me crash in their bed while they slept on the couch for a few nights. When I got my social assistance cheque, it was enough to rent a room and start getting back on my feet.
That was back in 2015. Today, it’s effectively impossible to rent a private room, let alone a studio apartment, if you’re living off Canada’s social safety net. Homelessness would have been my inevitable outcome if I had gone through the same struggles today.
When I see someone shivering in the rain or snow, I know that could be me. That is why I not only work at the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, but why I also make a personal monthly donation too.
Everyone deserves to live with dignity, safety, and a place to call home, especially those who are suffering the way I was when I lost my health, my job, my marriage, my home, and my sense of self-worth. We deserve safety at our most vulnerable, not just when we are thriving.
I’m so proud that with our collective advocacy, Build Canada Homes is prioritizing affordable housing, with a full $1 billion earmarked for supportive housing. We need this kind of housing to keep people like me from falling into homelessness and help people without a home find a safe place they can afford.
If you’re thinking about making a year-end gift, this matching campaign makes your support go twice as far – meaning twice the opportunity, twice the hope for the communities we help, and twice the chance to end homelessness.
A brand-new supporter was moved by the momentum from Giving Tuesday and has offered a $100,000 matching gift. This means that every donation made by December 31st will be doubled – making the season of giving even more impactful.
If you’re able to contribute before the year ends, can you chip in now to help us put your generosity to work – with double the impact? This will go towards helping prevent people from falling into homelessness.
We’ve accomplished so much this year, thanks to you and your support. I’m personally grateful for everything you do to help our work and spread the message to more people across the country.
Thank you for being part of our movement and believing in this work with me, I’m so grateful to have you as an ally. It means the world to me, and to everyone at CAEH.
